Igniting Movements

How Critical Factors And Special Ops Empower World Changers
Igniting Movements provides a framework and methodology for doing just that and empowers people to change the world for the better.

About The Book

People who want to change the world often form nonprofits without realizing that this is only a means to an end. Real change comes from movements, informal groups of people and organizations pursuing a common cause. Nonprofit organizations can further movements, but they are not themselves movements. Movements are made up of people working together under a shared sense of purpose. Movements need leaders, but leaders are not the movement, either. The job of leaders and founders is to inspire likeminded people to come together to create change.

Igniting Movements draws upon historical movements and movement theory, interviews with the executive leadership of today’s most exciting global nonprofits, real world experience leading humanitarian operations, and a career as a decorated special operations officer in the United States military. “Hope, drive, and faith are not alone enough to spark a global movement. Visionary leadership, a shared cohesive ideology, effective organizational structure, and powerful strategic messaging—these are the “Four Pillars” around which effective movements are built and real positive change is made. In Igniting Movements author and decorated Special Ops officer Damon Friedman provides a model using these pillars for building effective movements and inspiring people to come together under a singular vision to make the world a better place.”

Movements need visionary leadership, a driving ideology, strong organizational structure, and effective strategic messaging that can bring like-minded people together to pursue a specific vision for a better world.

A tipping point is “the magic moment when an idea, trend or social behavior crosses the threshold, tips, and spreads like wildfire…”

Malcolm Gladwell

Hope is a desire for something we are certain to receive, insurance concerning the future. Without hope, people are lost in a drift. You need to help in order to even start starting a movement.

Igniting Movements

You may feel ready to take on the world, even save the world, armed with just your own grit and determination, but this is a mistake. You’re going to need more than hoped, drive, and faith. You’re going to have to slow down in the name of pragmatism
